How to load Facebook site FAST!

Recently, it was reported that Facebook has been loading slow in Malaysia after the Japan earthquake. I myself have been experiencing it and it is ultimately annoying since I spend most of my time awake on Facebook! It was said that the submarine telecommunications cable system was affected by the earthquake. Those cables goes to some very important servers.

What to do now? Live with slow Facebook loading or find a way around it?? Being the menace that I naturally am, I’ve been poking my nose around to find the best way to curb the damn problem.

Now how to bypass the server that was affected? As found on HeHeHunter.net, he discovered a proxy server for Facebook called Akamai, hosted locally in Malaysia.

Want fast loading Facebook? Force your browser to use that proxy server to access Facebook.com? Try these few steps editing the HOSTS files on your PC.

For Windows users

1. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
2. Search for hosts file and open with notepad.exe
3. Add the following line right at the bottom: 203.106.85.66 www.facebook.com
4. Save the file.
5. Visit www.facebook.com or trying ping it on C:\ Command Prompt

Tip: Getting error when try to save hosts file? Check the workaround on Microsoft Support.

For Mac OS X users

1. Open terminal.app (Application -> Utilities -> Terminal
2. Type: sudo nano /etc/hosts
3. Type your password when prompted
4. Add this line at the end of file: 203.106.85.66 www.facebook.com
5. Press Control-O to save the file, press Enter on filename prompt.
6. Press Control-X to exit the text editor.
7. (Optional) Flush DNS cache with the command: dscacheutil -flushcache
8. Visit www.facebook.com 

Warning: While it is easy to edit HOSTS file but messing it up will cause unexpected web browsing experience.

The Fine Prints:

The modification is only modified for “www.facebook.com”. Accessing Facebook using“http://facebook.com” will still use the default routing path and it is recommended to revert back (remove the added line) after the submarine telecommunications cable system is fixed. Just in case, you should always turn on HTTPS for additional protection.

Weekend Getaway - Port Dickson

To sum up my amazingly fun weekend in Port Dickson... though at the point in time, I had no idea where I was on the map or which part of West Malaysia I was actually in. Was blessed with awesome instructors who were actually pretty darn real! Well, at first I seriously thought it was gonna be one of those brainwashing session man...

Had many chance of 'cuci mata' session! Maxis Group was having their own team building there at the same time! Met some familiar faces from Kuching! NICE! I'd give anything to go back there again! I wish they allowed us to have one whole day of FREE & EASY! After all that SWAT Camp, flying fox, running around, jumping around, climbing around.... a free day to recover would be pretty darn good!

Oh! My first time on the Banana Boat! They are so bloody bad! I actually choked on a lot of salt water in the ocean! Didn't help that I had an accident in the water! My head hit another person's head! They all still can laugh some more! Haiyo! I loved the Jet Ski though! I managed to take it far far out into the ocean! WEeeee~! Though I wish it would go faster! Maneuvering it was fun! Of course, Mr. Instructor had to be behind me.. just in case I fall into the ocean alone, I guess! LOL!
