Was recently invited to a whisky tasting at Social@KL, G Tower. No one mentioned it was a single malt scotch whisky! =P I am sort of an expert when it comes to single malt whiskies! Talk about reminiscing on my past trainings in Kuching! Wahahaaha!
The whisky tasting focused more on single malts from Islay, an island off the Southern coast of Scotland. Islay Scotch single malts are not for simple drinkers. Its an acquired taste. Its either you love it or you hate it. Simple as a YES or a NO. Islay single malts have unique tastes that takes time getting used to because of how it is produced. Different single malts are kept in different casks to get its unique taste like sherrywood or bourbon barrels.
For that particular evening, we were treated to 3 different single malt scotch whiskies - Bunnahabhain 12, Bowmore 15 and Balvenie 12 Doublewood. In my opinion, Bunnahabhain 12 year-old is one of the easy single malt. The easiest single malt to drink for the first try/beginners. The Bowmore 15 year-old is slightly muskier. Very smooth but very musky, manly taste. =P
I must say I love the Balvenie 12 year-old Doublewood!! Now this is one smoky single malt just like that of the Laphroaig, one of the famous Islay whisky. Though, right after the smoky taste, the Balvenie 12 year-old Doublewood leaves your throat with a sweet smooth taste which gives you a smoky sweet taste that you just wanna try it again and again to feel the sweetness right after the smoky taste!! Truly, a magical taste to the tongue and throat.
There are a bunch of other famous single malt whiskies like Glenmorangie, Macallan, Glenfiddich & Highland Park. I guess my favourites will be the Balvenie and Glenfiddich! I'm happy to say that I've tasted all the single malt whiskies I've mentioned! Not bad, Naomi! You're up to date with your single malts. =P I highly recommend both my favourites!
Special thanks to Ms. Kyra and Ms. Cherine of Social@KL and Single Malt Sdn Bhd for the opportunity to broaden my knowledge and taste of single malt scotch whisky!
You can find a wide array of single malt scotch whisky at any Single Malt Sdn Bhd branch and not forgetting Social@KL. J Do check out the place if you ever need a whisky fix. Hehe!

Did not think of you to be the whisky type of girl, Yomi. You strike me as the cocktail kind of girl. I'm impressed. Do you drink it neat or mixed with coke?
