Chrism Mass

Thursday, March 20, 2008

The Mass of Chrism comes once a year in a cathedral. Chrism is made during the Holy Week, the last week before Easter. The Priests of the cathedral will gather together and pray. Parishioners are welcomed to pray for the Priests of the cathedral.

During the mass on Palm Sunday, Rev. Vincent Chin said..

"We will be having a Chrism Mass on this Thursday at 9am. Come and pray for us. We pray for you all 365 days in a year. So we are only asking you to come and pray for us for ONE day only."

So come Thursday..
There was only 4 cars in the parking lot. During normal Sunday masses, the parking lot would be full of cars. It could easily fit over 100 cars. The Priests must feel sad. =( I think it feels like throwing a birthday party and inviting a 100 guests to come BUT having only 10 person attending. =( Even I would cry what more to say for Priests who pray for us everyday.

Tomorrow will be Good Friday also known as the Holy Friday which commemorates the day Jesus was crucified on the cross at Calvary. It is a day of fasting and abstinence for those who are Catholics.

I was once told that some people only go to church 3 times a year on the following days, Good Friday, Easter Vigil and Christmas Day. Hence, if you wonder why the church is very full on these following days. Wonder no more~ Just make sure you come early and listen to the mass. I know at least 70% of those standing outside are not really listening. I guess, it is better to be there than not at all? Its the thought that counts? I guess. =)

Happy Easter in advance. =)
